I’m pretty sure I’ve told you this before, but I’m not a dress kinda girl. I love to dress up, I love shoes and heels, and I love matching the perfect handbag to all of it. But when I’m home relaxing, you’ll usually find me in jeans, a T-shirt, and sneakers, if I have shoes on at all. Hey, I don’t pay all that money for pedis just to cover my gorgeous toes up. Besides, I have nice feet. Do you ever see those women who, although they’ve done the right thing and had a pedi before putting sandals on, just have no business wearing sandals at all? I’m sorry, but some people just have ugly feet. There, I said it. Yeah, I know it’s not something that can be remedied like getting a different hairstyle, or using makeup to cover a zit or whatever, and that’s sad. Really. I feel for those people. But it doesn’t mean I want to see their Hobbit feet. Seriously. Cover those weird toes with a nice slingback, ok? ‘Preciate it. Anyway, dresses. So. Even though I don’t wear them that often, it is spring, and that means there are a lot of pretty, colorful dresses out there, and this is the time of year when I make an exception or two. I may even go—gasp!—floral. Especially when the dress is as cute as this Moschino Floral Print Cotton Dress.
The design is classic. Scoop neck. Sleeveless. Banded waist embellished with a braid stitch. It slips on and closes with a discreet side zipper. It’s also a proper sort of dress, at 32 inches, hitting just above the knee. Not too long for spring and summer, but not so short that you have to walk and sit with your thighs clenched. One word of caution—the back has a pleating detail, so if you’re carrying a little extra back there, you don’t want to enhance it with this dress. Or maybe you do. That’s a personal choice. It’s made from 97 percent cotton, so it breathes and keeps you cool, and 3 percent elastane, to move with you. It’s machine washable, but don’t put it in the dryer or it’ll be fit for a Barbie doll. Oh, one last thing. In addition to all the pretty flowers in the fabric, there are also skulls. Yes, you read that correctly. Skulls. Smiling skulls. With pink hearts for eyes. See for yourself. It’s a little unconventional, but kinda cool too. Get this Moschino dress for $339 at Zappos.com.

Ok, maybe the skulls are a bit much for you. Even with pink heart eyes. Instead, check out this prAna Lola Dress. It’s got a great blue geometric pattern going on. You know what it looks like to me? Those clear plastic curtains people used to hang in doorways in the ’60s. Groovy. I love the design of this dress. Slender straps that criss-cross in the back are always a feminine touch. The shirred front in the bodice is a bust enhancer, and there’s a built-in shelf bra for a little support. That is, unless you’re well-endowed in the bust department, in which case, you should not be walking around without a real bra. Unless they’re fake, and can stand up by themselves and act as flotation devices should the aircraft have to make an emergency water landing. The fabric is 90 percent Supplex, and 10 percent Lycra, so no wrinkles and comfortable freedom of movement. That’s just this geo print and the lavender cheetah print that’s also available. The black one is 92 percent polyester, and 8 percent Spandex. The Lola is just $67 at Zappos.com.
You can never go wrong with Columbia clothing. Not only do they make warm, kickass winter jackets and coats that will keep you warm, even in an avalanche, they make great outdoor and sporty clothing. Take a look at this Columbia Marrakesh Maven Dress. Ok, first, love that name. And it’s gorgeous in this melon color, which is a perfect complement to this spring’s orange trend. It also comes in a cool color called patina, which is a light teal blue, as well as black. That black one could take you from a stroll on the boardwalk to a night on the town, with the right accessories. Not only is the Marrakesh pretty and feminine, it has some hidden features. For one, the fabric. It’s a polyester/elastane blend to fight off wrinkles and have plenty of give no whether you’re walking or dancing. The dress is also made with Columbia’s exclusve Omni-Dry technology so that during either of those activities, if you sweat a little, the fabric will wick the moisture away from your body, keeping you cool and dry. But wait! There’s more! It’s also made with Omni-Shade, technology that provides UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) 50 protection against the sun. Granted, in this style, it’s not going to protect your shoulders, but still. How cool is that?! There are also a couple of hidden pockets along the side seams. At this price, I’d get a couple of colors, or maybe all three! It’s just $65 at Zappos.com.
