Heys Britto Collection Butterfly Spinner Case

Next week is Christmas. I know, right? Already?! I’m not even done with my shopping. If I didn’t have to work, I’d be done already. Businesses should have shifts during the holidays so not everyone is hitting the stores at the same time right after five. Everyone crowding into a store at once is so not fun. And then the people who insist on pushing their ginormous baby strollers through the mall. What. The. Hell? Is the baby shopping? Is he the breadwinner of the family? Is he doing something constructive like holding bags or comparison shopping? No? Then leave him at home! Why do the rest of us have to squeeze by or be tripped because people bring these strollers as big as my first car into the stores? Of course, these are the same people who take their infants into the theater, and then don’t take the little brats out when they start crying or making noise. Um, I didn’t pay 20 bucks to listen to your kid cry or yell, ok? Do us all a favor and leave the kids at home until you have taught them how to behave in public, keep them out of the theater until they’re at least five, and leave the damn strollers at home, period! Wow, that was a big ol’ tangent, wasn’t it? I think I need to cut back on the coffee. Where was I? Oh yes, Christmas! So you may be going out of town, right? If you are, you need a cute weekend bag to hold your stuff. Or if you have family coming to visit, a weekender makes a good gift, not to mention a great hint that they shouldn’t overstay their welcome. Family’s nice at the holidays, for about the first two hours. After that, I start hitting the eggnog hard and praying the flights don’t get delayed. Anyway, forget the drab black or brown bags. Carry something that pops, like this Heys Britto Collection Butterfly Spinner Case.

First of all, Romero Britto is not a designer. He’s a Brazilian artist. Heys decided to do something a little different and have him come up with some colorful designs for their latest luggage. I gotta tell you, I like it. I have a thing for butterflies anyway, as we’ve established before, and I love how colorful this spinner case is. You will have no trouble telling which bag is yours on the carousel in baggage claim, that’s for sure. The bag itself is made from a polycarbonate composite, which means it’s very durable. It has a retractable aluminum pull handle with a padded grip, as well as a top handle for hand-carrying. The bag zips open, and the interior is lined with a funky blue padded polka-dotted fabric that offers lots of storage and extra zippered pockets. But why is it called a spinner bag? Because the wheels spin 360 degrees, making it easy to push and pull around the airport. Carry a piece of art for $254 at Zappos.com. If you really like it and want it, you’d better hurry. There’s only one left on the site!

Budget Saving Alternatives

Ok, maybe that’s a little too busy and bright for you, or you’ve already spent most of your last paycheck on gifts, so you need something a little more affordable. Then check out this Marc by Marc Jacobs Miss Marc Tote. It’s just the right size for a couple of changes of clothing, so when your family asks why you’re not staying longer, you can blame it on the size of your travel bag and the limited number of pairs of clean underwear. What, you’ve never used that excuse? It works, trust me. Anyway, the Miss Marc tote is made from navy blue nylon, so it’ll stand up to harsher weather. And the outside is adorned with a cute little appliqué of a girl and her…chicken? Yup, that’s a chicken all right. Or is it a partridge? Whatever it is, it’s a unique design that will make you stand out when carrying the bag. But the inside is lined with one hundred percent cotton twill logoed fabric that will go easy on your belongings. The top zips closed to keep everything in place, and there’s an inner zip pocket, and slip pockets for smaller items as well. With a seven-inch drop from the dual handles, you can comfortably hand- or shoulder-carry this one. It’s just $188 at Piperlime.com.

Betsey Johnson is not known for being demure. One look at most of her designs should tell you who made them. She goes for bright colors and eye-popping patterns. I guess that’s why this Betseyville bag is called the Poppin’ Paisley Weekender. The majority of the bag is made from nylon, but the bottom, the outer pockets, and some of the trim is black patent. The fabric is a mix of hot pink, orange, blue, and teal, with a funky paisley pattern. Two outer pockets give extra storage space, and the top zips closed. There’s also a detachable shoulder strap if you’d rather not hand-carry it. It’s also available in a mostly teal green fabric. Travel in funky style for just $148 from Endless.com.
