As much as I love heels, after a summer of flip flops, flat sandals, and mostly going barefoot, it’s a bit of a transition to start wearing heels again in the fall. I feel like one of those ugly stepsisters in Disney’s Cinderella, when they’re trying to shove that dainty glass slipper onto their big honkin’ feet. No, I don’t have big feet. Shut up. I’m saying, I just feel that way after a summer of letting my toes wiggle freely in water and sand. Having to ease myself back into heels—literally—I don’t want to miss out on the gorgeous ornamented shoes that are going to be big this fall. Well, I realized I can have the best of both worlds in a pretty, ornamented shoe like this Taryn Rose Babe ballerina flat.
It’s a feminine flat with just a half-inch heel, so it’s easy on the feet when you’re going from summer to fall fashion. What I also like is the rounded toe box. Looks like there’s plenty of room in there for everyone to stretch out and not be all jammed together like ugly stepsister toes. I like it in red, but it’s also available in clay. The rose ornament on the vamp is sculpted leather, and there’s leather trim around the collar as well. Ok, the rose is a little big, I’ll admit. But what really sells me on this shoe is the textured suede upper. I love suede anyway, and when you add the little swirls and dots (you’ll need to click over to get a closer look), well, that’s just a big bonus! Throw in the fact that it will look good with capris, pants, jeans, or even a skirt—you know, if I ever wore them—and it’s a nearly perfect shoe. Except for the big flower. And maybe the big price. It costs $444.95 at Endless.com.
Budget Saving Alternatives
While I wait for a sale, and wonder whether I can remove that flower without damaging the shoe, and wonder whether I really would because of how much that flower alone must cost on a four hundred forty-four dollar shoe, I think I can find some other ornamented flats that I’ll like just as much. One that caught my eye is this Diego di Lucca Lonna D’Orsay flat. That’s a mouthful, isn’t it? I’ll just call it the Lonna. The Lonna has a pointy toe, which I’m not crazy about, at least not for long wear, but the side cutout and the glossy metallic leather are what got me. I really like the look of shimmery leather. I think this minty green is nice, but you can also get it in salmon or black patent. The ruffle that adorns the vamp is a nice feminine touch, too, and another thing that looks like it’s going to be big this fall—ruffles. The Lonna also has a half-inch heel, a low profile, and will also look good with just about any style of pant or skirt. Try it out for $159.95 at Endless.com.
Normally I wouldn’t go for a purple shoe, but I’m kinda liking this one for a few reasons. Don’t get me wrong, I like purple ok, I just don’t usually seek it out in a shoe. A handbag maybe, or an article of clothing, but purple shoes scream “clown” to me, and clowns freak me out. Best to avoid all that altogether. This is a cute shoe, though, and it has a very rounded toe, so it looks comfortable. It also has a cushioned footbed, and a flexible rubber outsole, adding even more comfort to your step. The ruffles on the vamp are pretty, too. And if you’re concerned about the environment, or just don’t like wearing leather, this shoe is vegan friendly, made from 100 percent synthetic suede. So you’ll be doing something for the planet and looking good while you’re at it. Go green—or, um, purple—for just $59 at Piperlime.com.
