Is it Monday again already?! Who allowed that to happen? Who was the genius who decided that out of a seven-day week, we should work five and only get two off? Where do I lodge a complaint? I can’t? Well then, I guess you guys will just have to listen to me bitch about the fact that while most people are sleeping in today because it’s a holiday, I’m sitting at my computer, diligently working. Well, ok, I’m blogging, but that’s work, right? I mean, these shoes, handbags and kickass accessories I share with you guys don’t just leap onto the page themselves, y’know. I research. I scroll through page after page of shoes and purses, looking for just the right items to write about. It’s not like I’m shopping or anything. Are you buying any of this? No? Well, let’s just get to the shoes then, shall we? A great transition shoe to take you from winter into spring is a driver moccasin or loafer, like this Ralph Lauren Collection Zoe Loafer.
Why a driver moccasin? Well, obviously you wouldn’t want to wear any kind of flat if there’s still snow on the ground. That would be pretty stupid unless you don’t mind losing a couple of toes to frostbite. Once the snow has cleared up a little, the ground may still be slick, though. The nubby bottoms of a driver moccasin will give you a little traction, and allow you to start wearing cute shoes again instead of bulky snow boots. And when the weather warms up even more, the classic silhouette and bright color of the Zoe will perfectly complement your spring wardrobe. The upper is made from spazzolato leather, while the sole is a combination of leather and sturdy rubber. The heel’s only one eighth of an inch high, so you’ll keep your sure footing even if it’s a little wet out. I love the gold-tone, polished buckle detail over the vamp, and this gorgeous red. It also comes in black, if you prefer. It’s $349.95 at Endless.com.

There’s no reason to wear a plain black or brown loafer when there are so many colorful and unusual options out there. Take this Icon Driver-1 flat, for instance. Most of the upper is made from beautiful black patent leather to add a touch of shine to your outfit. Not to mention, it stands up to moisture better than untreated leather. The footbed is padded for optimal comfort, and the heel is low at just three quarters of an inch. What makes this shoe particularly interesting is the vamp panel. From afar, it may look like it’s just red, which would be interesting enough on top of a black patent shoe. But close up, you’ll see it’s actually printed with the image of several red roses in mid-bloom. It’s feminine without being too flouncy. Slip this loafer on with a pair of black or gray pants and red blouse, and you’re all set to make an impression. Try it out for $165 at Endless.com.
Budget Saving Alternative 2
Ok, you probably know by now I’m not a fan of UGG boots. I think they’re hideous, and I think it’s ridiculous that people wear them with shorts. I was all set to just ignore the brand altogether, when someone pointed out that they actually make some pretty cute loafers. I had my doubts, but I checked it out anyway, and lo and behold, it’s true. The UGG Abroad loafer is conservative in design, but offers a classic look. The moccasin-style upper is made from suede, so bonus points right there. Add to that the fact that, in addition basic black and chocolate, it also comes in a beautiful green called Swiss loden, and this eye-catching amber brown, and I’m sold. A metal buckle-like ornament adorns the vamp, and the rubber sole is segmented for both traction and flexibility. Two things I don’t like—do they really need to say UGG on both sides, and on the outer heel? Anyone who wears these should charge UGG an advertising fee. Also, the sheepskin insole sort of makes them look like slippers, but I guess that won’t really be an issue while you’re wearing them. The best part is they’re on sale. Normally $120, you can get the Abroad right now for $95 at Zappos.com.
