To tell you the truth, when I first saw these shoes, I couldn’t decide if I liked or hated them. I feel like I should like them, because they’re Prada, but something about them just really makes me cringe. Maybe it’s the square toe or the absolutely heinous tassels – since when is a Cowboys-and-Indians look ever chic? However, I do like the shape of the shoe, and the low heel ensures that I can wear these safely on a wet fall street with no recourse.
The shoes themselves are made of a smooth ivory leather with tonal whip stitching and a metallic-colored lining on the sole. They actually look like they might be comfortable, but I can’t justify actually going out with these on, unless, of course, I’ve got the tasselled jacket to match. As you can see, I’m finding it hard to get past those tassels; they sort of make me think that in five minutes I’m going to be swept away on the back of a horse to live with Dances with Wolves forever. Not a bad fantasy, if you like Kevin Costner, but coming back to the point at hand, I don’t think these are something I’d wear. If you’re interested, you can find them at NeimanMarcus.com for a whopping $495.00. The site has a little warning that I can only buy three pairs at a time. Thanks, but I won’t even be buying one.
If you really want to see shoe tassels used properly, take a look at these Anne Klein Vintage flats. They’ve got a pointed toe, a metallic light gold leather upper (or, you can get them in a charcoal grey), and an understated tassel. See, Prada? Understated is the key. They’ve even got a little half-inch heel to make a girl feel a little taller when she’s strolling the streets in these beauties. Find them for $88.95 at Zappos.com.
Ornamentation on the toe? The Delman Women’s Dalton Ballet Flat has it! Although this shoe isn’t really my cup of tea, anything’s better than ugly tassels. The bronze-calf-colored shoe has a mink and silk flower embellishment on the vamp and a ribbon trim around the collar. It’ll look great with couture jeans or even just a funky little skirt. Actually, the more I look at these shoes, the more I like them. I found them for $160.89 at Endless.com.
