So you’ve got the rain coat, and you have a waterproof handbag that will keep your necessities dry. What’s missing? Well, you can’t very well go walking around in the rain without the proper footwear, can you? I mean, unless you like the idea of ruining those leather pumps that go perfectly with everything in your closet. I didn’t think so. Throw the pumps in your patent leather bag and throw on a pair of rain boots instead. But I’m not talking about the ones you may have worn as a kid. You know, the goofy looking ones your mom made you wear to school that were probably bright yellow and big enough to fit over your regular shoes. “Just take them off when you get to school and you’ll be fine.” Sure, no one will laugh at me at the bus stop. Thanks, Mom. Uh…did I say all that out loud? Huh. Well, now you know where my obsession with beautiful shoes comes from. No more school-bus-yellow galoshes for me. I’ll still totally eat tomato soup and grilled cheese on a rainy day, though, and I’ll even do it while wearing a fab pair of rain boots like the London Fog Wales.
It’s a tall boot with a 1.5-inch sliver wedge heel. It almost looks like a riding boot except it’s 100 percent patent leather. Other than that making it waterproof, it’s constructed to keep moisture out as well. It has a full zipper closure with a decorative button on the upper part of the shaft. The footbed is lined with Thermolite, a lightweight fabric designed to keep your feet warm and dry without adding weight or bulk. The inside of the boot also has a Microfur lining, also designed for warmth without taking up space. The rubber sole will help keep you from slipping. Try them on for $130 at Piperlime.com.

Now, those boots will look great when you wear them into work on a rainy day, or if you go out on the town on a stormy night. But they’re not very fun, are they? I mean, come on. Let’s be honest. When it’s raining out, you still get that urge to jump in a puddle every once in a while, don’t you? You know it’s fun! You wait until no one’s looking and then just splash water everywhere right? I knew it! What? Me? No, I never do that. I was just getting you to admit it. Now that you have, you need the right boot for puddle jumping. Not only is the Kamik Maui a fun boot that will brighten even the darkest of cloudy days, it will keep your tootsies dry and comfy. The boot has a completely waterproof upper, a cushioned insole, and a treaded outsole to help you keep steady footing when you’re splashing around in those puddles. True to their tropical name, they’re covered in a fun floral print that also comes in blue or lime. I like this multi-colored one, though. It’s like wearing your own personal rainbow. Too bad it doesn’t come with a pot o’ gold. At least they won’t cost you a pot o’ gold. Usually they’re $69.95, but you can get your splash on for just $56.90 right now at Endless.com.

Also from Kamik, I’m digging the Mazylo rain boot. Just like the Maui, the upper is made from lightweight and waterproof PVC. You know what that means? The boots are also recyclable, so you can wear them knowing that when they wear out, they can be made into something else like, I don’t know, water bottles and someone can drink from the very material you wore on your feet. Ew. Anyway, what do you care what they get made into later. You’re concerned about the here and now, and right now, they’re just cute boots to wear! The footbed is removable, but I don’t know why you’d want to do that since it’s cushioned and comfy. I love the print on the upper, which is available in this blue as well as green and red. Get a couple of pairs since they’re only $49.95 at Zappos.com.
