Kate Spade Colin Sandal

Kate Spade Colin Sandal

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’ve been avoiding those shoes that can’t decide whether they’re pumps, sandals, or booties. All the ones I’ve seen have been just hideous, and I couldn’t bring myself to jump on that particular bandwagon. They just look so bulky to me. I’ve seen celebs on the red carpet in beautiful, feminine dresses, and then these huge things on their feet that look like someone’s attempt to dress up a cast shoe. Hey, that’s not a bad idea. You’ve seen those ugly blue canvas things people wear over foot casts, right? Why not make some in other colors and patterns? Add some embellishments here and there, and voila! Designer cast shoes! Why am I giving this away here? It’s a brilliant idea! Shh! Don’t tell anyone, ok? Anyway, so I wasn’t digging the pump/sandal/booties, until I saw these. I should have known Kate wouldn’t let me down! I’m loving this Kate Spade Colin Sandal!

First of all, I think this is the perfect shoe to straddle the tail end of winter and beginning of spring. It’s suede, which says winter, yet it’s a sandal, but not too skimpy so as to be completely spring-like. And the color is just gorgeous, a pale gray that’s almost silver. I love the dainty bow detail on the front, too. Very feminine. What also makes this shoe a bit more feminine is that it’s not on a platform, so it looks simpler, more elegant. The suede upper is adorned with circular and diamond shaped cut outs, and the slingback has a small band of elastic for just the right fit. The heel is only 3.5 inches high. It’s a great shoe for either slacks or a skirt. At this price, you just can’t pass them up. They usually go for $295. Right now, they’re on sale for only $174.23 at Zappos.com, which is an awesome price for a pair of Kate Spade shoes!

Budget Saving Alternatives

While looking for comparable shoes, I was surprised to find another pair I actually liked. The Nine West Bombazin isn’t quite as delicate as the Colin, but it doesn’t look like sandals made for the bride of Frankenstein, either. It also has a suede upper in this light gray color, but is also available in other colors and materials: black or brown suede; dark brown, dark purple, dark silver leather; and gold or pewter synthetic material. The sole on all varieties is man made, as is the lining. The footbed is cushioned, which is good since the Bombazin sits on a 4.25-inch heel, countered by a 1-inch platform. The cutout straps are very feminine, and the ankle strap has an adjustable buckle closure. The Bombazin is also on sale, marked down from $88.95 to $72.05 at Zappos.com.

I’m not really liking this Report Leia sandal as much as the other two because it’s closer to that bulky hulking shoe I was talking about, but hey, if it floats your boat, go for it. It’s also gray, albeit in a darker shade, so it won’t transition as well over to spring, except maybe as more of an evening shoe. The upper is suede, with triangular cutouts along the sides, an open toe, and an elasticized slingback strap. The wider-at-the-top, 3.75-inch heel will give you plenty of stability, and it’s offset by a .75-inch recessed platform, another feature I’m not so crazy about. Those kinds of platforms make me feel wobbly when I walk. If I want to feel that, I can just do a couple more shots, thanks. The Leia is just $59.99 at heels.com.
