I think the weather is affecting my mood. I’m not feeling particularly snarky, just plain grumpy. One day it’s sunny, the next it’s cold. Then it’s a mild day, followed by thunderstorms. I’m trying to write a fashion blog here, and it doesn’t help when you can’t make up your mind, weather! How am I supposed to feature a gorgeous pair of sandals when it’s raining out? Or how can I talk about bundling up when it’s 72 degrees out? You’re not making it easy, weather, and I don’t appreciate it. Not one bit. So you know what? I don’t care. I’m going to write about what I want to write about, and quit worrying about you. What? Oh, you don’t like that? Well, you’re not exactly taking my needs into account with all this back and forth, are you? In fact, you know what? I don’t think there’s any “Mother Nature” at all. I think, weather, that you must be male because only a guy would jerk me around this much and then still get jealous when I ignore him. So back off, weather. I’m ready for whatever you throw at me, especially with this Burberry Nova Painted Heart Rain Boot.
We all know Burberry’s an excellent brand, but I gotta be honest. I’m not a fan of the trademark Burberry plaid. It just doesn’t do anything for me. So I didn’t really go looking for anything from Burberry, but then the Nova jumped out at me. There’s still some semblance of a plaid pattern in there, but it’s more abstract, and definitely more colorful. The grid is made up of dark gray and raspberry lines, and then is overlaid with a bunch of little hearts made to look like they’ve been carelessly painted on. The upper is all synthetic, as is the outsole. The interior and insole are fabric-lined. At 12.5 inches, the shaft is tall enough to tuck in a pair of skinny jeans, and the one-inch heel will keep you steady on those we sidewalks. You know, that whole April showers thing. You gotta be prepared! The Burberry Nova goes for $195 at Zappos.com.

There’s no reason to wear bulky, ugly rain boots when there are such lovely choices out there. Take the dav English Rain Boot for instance. I love this one. It’s a fiery red with an abstract black pattern swirling around it, with a few yellow sunbursts thrown in for good measure. You won’t want to cover these up with pants, especially since the top is angled, providing another visual point of interest. The upper is made from PVC, and the sole is man made and textured for sure footing. A half-inch platform offsets the 1.25-inch heel. In addition to this gorgeous pattern, it’s also available in leopard print, lime lace, black lace, and a sky blue floral, which looks very English indeed. Get it for $84.95 at Endless.com.

Now, how can you not love a rain boot called pelican? The Sperry Top-Sider Pelican Lug Boot is perfect for all kinds of weather, and attire. You can wear the shaft open to tuck in your jeans, or use the adjustable buckle at the top of the shaft to slim it a little, and wear the boot under a medium-length skirt. A very feminine print covers the upper, in shades of turquoise, lime green, brown, and magenta, which sound like they’d be awful together, but the Pelican makes it work. There’s a one-inch heel, and a heavy-treaded rubber outsole. The upper is also made from one hundred percent rubber, while the interior is lined with cotton to keep your feet cool and wick away moisture. The Pelican is just $68 at Piperlime.com.
