Badgley Mischka Platinum Humbie Open Toe Pump

We’re getting closer to the holiday season! Well, if the commercials and store displays are any indication, we should already be in the middle of December by now. Seriously, it’s like they start earlier every year. Pretty soon, they’ll just leave that stuff up all year, like that one house on the street that leaves their lights up all year. Do you think those people are trying to extend the holiday spirit throughout the year, or are they just lazy? I’m voting for lazy. I mean, come on. You took the time to pull the ladder out of the garage and put them up, right? So how much trouble can it be to work off all the stuffing, cookies, pie, and candy you ate for the last two months, and take them down, huh? Unless you really overdid it and are just too heavy for the ladder now. Anyway, other than lots of yummy food—can’t wait for Christmas cupcakes!—the other awesome thing about the holidays is all the parties! Yes, and the gifts, too, sure. But parties! Parties combine all that is good about the holidays—food, gifts, spiked eggnog, and gorgeous party clothes and accessories. So this week is going to be dedicated to some sparkly, glimmering things you can wear to this year’s holiday events, starting with the Badgley Mischka Platinum Humbie Open Toe Pump.

Sequins are big this year, and not just for the holidays. They’ve shown up on some great spring flats, and fall flats as well. The current shoe trend is to use double sided sequins that are sewn on in such a way that with the brush of a hand, you can change the color of your shoes. The really cool thing is the sequins don’t have to be flipped in a uniform way. You can mix it up, giving the shoe a random pattern, or even run your finger over them in a zig-zag, or whatever you feel like doing. The Humbie is another example of this technique, with its sapphire blue and silver sequins. It also comes in black and silver. The Humbie also just happens to be a gorgeous open toe pump. Yeah, I know, it’s getting colder. But who has an outdoor party when it’s cold out? Your toes should stay nice and toasty while you’re dancing the night away, even if they do get a little chilly in transit. The Humbie’s sole is leather, so with a little pre-party scuffing, you’ll guarantee sure footing. The 4.5-inch heel will make your legs look long and sleek, but won’t feel that high with the .75-inch hidden platform. The shoes come with a dust bag to keep those sequins sparkling for years to come. And get this—they’re very reasonably priced at just $200 at Endless.com.

Budget Saving Alternatives

I think 200 bucks for a pair of Mischkas is pretty damn good, but it is about that time when we need to be thinking about buying gifts for others, so the more budget friendly we can get, the better, right? On the other hand, you could always look at it as buying yourself a gift. You know, I’m not that crazy about Melissa Joan Hart, but I saw her on a talk show once sporting a huge diamond on her finger. The host asked her about it, and she called it, “my nobody loves me like me ring.” I think that is an awesome way to be. Why shouldn’t you treat yourself once in a while, right? If we wait around for our significant others to get a clue and send us flowers or buy us little trinkets, we may never get them. Some people are just clueless about that stuff. So don’t wait around for it—go out and get what you want! Ok, enough with the female empowering stuff. Let’s get back to the shoes! At first, I wasn’t digging this Nina Erna Peep Toe Pump. It looked a little too busy with both sequins and jewels on it. But then I looked more closely, and realized that the sequins aren’t lavender all over. (Nina calls this color burgundy, but it’s too light for that, I think.) Right around the peep toe opening and streaking back toward the center of the shoe along the bottom, the sequins are gold. It’s subtle, and a beautiful accent. And the jewel cluster isn’t that obtrusive, either. It’s understated, with just the right amount of color and sparkle. The heel measures 4.25 inches, and is offset by the half-inch hidden platform. If the lavender doesn’t do it for you, the Erna also comes in bronze, which also has the gold sequin accents, and pewter, which is uniform in color. It’s just $99.95 at Endless.com.

If you love the look of those Mischkas, you can get almost the same look for a lot less with the Chinese Laundry Ladybug Peep Toe Platform Pump. Ok, first? It’s called Ladybug. How cute is that?! Ladybugs are the only bug I can tolerate and will even allow to crawl on me without running from the room screaming bloody murder. I hate bugs. Hate. Them. With a passion. They gross me out, they’re disgusting, and I can’t stand them. I can’t even look at them on TV without getting the willies. Blech. So I don’t mind that these are called Ladybug, even though they look nothing like the cute little insect. They’re pretty much the same beautiful blue as the Humbie, also with a sexy peep toe. The measurements are the same, too, with a 4.25-inch heel and a .75-inch hidden platform. The toe is a little pointier than the Humbie, and the vamp isn’t quite as rounded, but I own several pairs of Chinese Laundry shoes, and love them all. The sole is man made rather than leather, so it may take a little more work to scuff it up properly, but the money you save will make the extra effort worthwhile. The Ladybug is only $79.95 at Endless.com.

Check back Wednesday for the next part in the holiday sparkle series—party purses!

I plan on blogging about the Chinese Laundry ones too because they remind me of the sequined Louboutin peep toes (which I would cut a toe off just to own).

Just make sure the toe you cut off isn’t one that would be visible in the peep toe, and you’ll be fine. Might even make the Louboutins fit better! Hmm…
