Whenever I see a handbag like this, I’m reminded of those commercials where you see couples gallivanting on a yacht, somewhere on a sapphire sea. The more I’ve seen of this season’s handbags, the more I’m convinced that these designers have been influenced by a nautical mood, of sorts. Frankly, I like the sailor look. Valentino’s Tuxedo Nappa Frame Bag is no exception – although, what else would you expect me to say about Valentino?
The bag is made of soft white nappa leather and designed to look like the shirt and bow tie of a tuxedo. It’s got contrast topstitching down the exterior and a brown leather frame with a bow tie at the clasp. As usual, Valentino has discreetly included his gold-toned plaque on the bottom edge of the bag’s side. The purse is also made with double sturdy handles and a magnetic frame closure.
So, if it’s made like a tuxedo, why does it call up thoughts of the sea? Maybe because it reminds me so much of the bags that society women take on their yachts. In reality, you could take this bag anywhere; it would look great with jeans, blouse and cropped jacket, or with a smart business suit and beautiful shoes. Personally, if someone gave me a Valentino bag, I’d find something to wear with it, no matter what my wardrobe looks like. This bag was meant to be seen. Our next instance of “frame bags that rock” is this Elliot Lucca Sly Satchel, which also reminds me of a breezy day on the boat. However, this bag is definitely stylish enough to hold its own on the city streets, too. It’s made of supple white leather with a contrasting black leather frame. With dual handles and a platform bottom, it could almost pass as a bowler bag. Find yours for $154.76 at Zappos.com.

At first, when I saw the Hype Costa Del Sol large frame bag, I kind of was inclined to pass it by. On closer inspection, however, I realize that I actually like this. The bag is made of leather and canvas and has a floral design studded with gold-toned hardware and buckles. It has both a small handle and a strap, for easy carrying. In short, I’ve got to learn not to judge frame bags before I see them properly. Find yours for $145.89 at Endless.com.
