I went looking for a handbag to match the Stuart Weitzman T-strap sandals I recently bought. I have a couple of red handbags, but none in patent leather, and I thought it’d be cool to have a bag that matches the shoes not only in color, but in material. Well, I haven’t found just the right red patent leather handbag yet, but I did run across this gorgeous Rebecca Minkoff MAB Mini, also called a MAM.
If you’re familiar with her line, you know that MAB stands for Morning After Bag. I won’t speculate on exactly what that’s supposed to imply, or why anyone would need a bag specifically for such an occasion. (There’s another bag in the line called Knocked Up. I guess that’s for when the Morning After Bag fails?) All I know is, I like this bag. The MAM is 20 percent smaller than the original Morning After Bag, but it doesn’t sacrifice any of the style. It’s made from smooth, Italian leather, has a top zip closure, and special compartments inside to store everything you need, including your cell phone, and all your credit cards. There’s also an exterior zip, and protective metal feet to keep the leather from getting scratched up when you set the bag down. The double handles give it a seven-inch drop, and the included, detachable shoulder strap has a drop of sixteen inches. It’s finished with goldtone hardware, and I love the coral color. The MAM sells for $595 at Nordstrom.com.
I like the MAM, but I don’t know if I’m ready to spend that much after what I just spent on those sandals. I couldn’t find it in coral or red, but I do like this JP Tods Mocasino Small Tote. The tan, Italian calfskin leather is lightly textured, and decorated with white stitching. Even though it’s a small bag, it has ample space inside with three main compartments, including a center zip compartment and two smaller side pockets. It’s imprinted with the Tods logo, and comes with a dust bag and authenticity papers. It normally retails for $1020, but Moda Queen has it right now for $329.
As often happens when I’m shopping, I set out to find one thing and end up with something totally different. This green Latico Nappa Solid Front Buckle Handbag is quite a departure from the red patent I was looking for, but I’m seriously considering it. It does come in red, as well as black and yellow, but this green one just says summer to me. Its Nappa leather is milled to be supple and lightweight, and is decorated with tone-on-tone stitching and antiqued brass hardware. It’s a casual handbag with leather zipper pulls and soft contours. You can usually find it on eBags.com for $189, but it’s currently on sale, so you can snap it up for just $151.20.
