Beyond Vintage Ruffle Detail Tie Front Top

Fashion is a circle. There are some things that never, ever go out of style, like jeans. The styles and varieties may change a bit from year to year, but jeans themselves are a staple that I don’t see ever fading from the fashion landscape. Get it? Fading? Come on, you know that was a good one. Ahem. Anyway, even the things you think are just too hideous to ever make a comeback eventually do show up, even if just for a short time. Like the tube top. Seriously, people, if you’ve ever worn one of these, you’re either a child of the ’70s, or you just had a moment of really bad judgment a few years ago. Don’t you know that wearing a tube top is just dangerous? Didn’t you ever see what happened to one woman who was a contestant on The Price is Right? This was a while back, when Bob Barker still hosted. You know, when it was still good before that poser Drew Carey took over. You can see for yourself what I’m talking about. Check out what happens around 4:20. So if you’re going to do the new boho chic trend, stay away from the tube top, and go instead for something a little more substantial, like the Beyond Vintage Ruffle Detail Tie Front Top.

This is boho chic done right. The ivory colored blouse is made from a blend of silk, viscose, and voile, which means it will breathe and maintain that flowy, soft look so reminiscent of ’70s fashion. Just remember that also means it must be dry cleaned. The top features short sleeves, and a scoop neck trimmed with lace, and adorned with a feminine bow in front. There are a few more lace insets on the blouse, delineating an empire waist, which is good for accenting your boobs. Pair this with a push-up bra for the best look. Just below the bow are a few pintuck details, another very feminine addition. It has a relaxed fit, and falls just past the hips. Wear it with a flouncy skirt, or a pair of ever-fashionable jeans, and those clogs I just talked about the other day. The Beyond Vintage blouse goes for $205 at Piperlime.com.

Budget Saving Alternatives

A neutral blouse is good to wear with a printed skirt, but if you go with jeans, you can also wear a printed, colorful top. The Joie Dove boho blouse makes a perfect complement to a solid skirt or pair of slacks. It’s made from one hundred percent cotton, so while it’s washable, you may want to keep it out of the dryer to avoid shrinkage. Because it’s lightweight, it moves freely while the elasticized sleeves and waist keep it from moving around too much. Because the elastic waist will cause it to blouse out a little, it will also look great with a pair of skinny jeans and a great ballet flat, or a pair of neutral platforms. The wide scoop neck leaves plenty of room for a beaded necklace, too. It usually sells for $178, but it’s on sale now for $88.99 at Piperlime.com.

While spring brings out a lot of color, one constant that goes with any spring hue is white. You can’t go wrong with a boho chic tunic top in bright white. Well, unless you’re like me and white is a food magnet whenever you wear it. I seldom wear white tops because I invariably end up with at least one food or beverage stain on it. And don’t believe those Tide Stain Stick commercials, either, because not only do they not completely remove the stain, then you’re walking around with an even bigger wet spot on the front of your blouse. Not a good look. Anyway, this Splendid Pintuck Square Neck Top might just be worth the risk because it’s so pretty. It’s made from 50 percent cotton, and 50 percent modal, which is also a natural fabric made from reconstituted cellulose from the beech tree. It has a square neck, if you didn’t get that from the blouse’s name, and the elbow-length sleeves have elastic banded cuffs. There are no lace adornments, but it has nice pintuck detailing, creating a gathered neckline. It’s also on sale. Normally $63, it’s just $44.99 at Piperlime.com.
