What is up with Kate Gosselin’s hair? Did she just get out of bed and forget to brush the back? I know she’s had this new style for a while now, but I’m a little perplexed as to why she hasn’t changed it. I mean, other than it just looking ridiculous, people are making fun of it left and right, even publishing photos of what celebrities would look like with Kate’s hair. I’m pretty sure that feature wasn’t meant to be flattering.
Looking at pictures of Kate from just five years ago, it’s hard to believe it’s the same woman. Her hair before wasn’t too bad. Kind of boring, yes, and not very stylish, but also not a backwards mullet. Sure, individuality is a good thing, and no one should be too easily influenced by the opinions of others. Heck, sometimes someone goes out on a limb and starts a new trend. But in this case, someone really needs to sit her down and explain that the only trend she’s started is one that makes her a target of tabloids, nighttime talk show hosts, and fashionistas all on her own, without the affair and marriage-on-the-rocks drama.
The other thing I find baffling is that she and her wayward husband are ending up on the covers of magazines, and their photos are included on pages with real celebrities. These people are not celebrities. They’re on TV, sure. Their names are known, yes. But celebrities? No. They got a TV show because they have eight kids and were willing to allow cameras into their lives in exchange for a lot of money. I guess when you have eight kids to support, you’ll welcome just about any income opportunity that comes your way. But now their relationship is getting almost as much attention as the whole Jen-Brad-Angelina thing did (and still does). And Kate is really playing the part. She’s had a tummy tuck, had her teeth straightened and whitened, and of course, she got the new ‘do.
And trust me, I see the irony in talking about being annoyed by the exposure they’re getting while I’m writing about it at the same time, contributing to that exposure. The thing is, I haven’t seen anyone else question why these people are being called celebrities, or why Kate’s showing up in the fashion pages. I just hope their spotlight is dwindling, and that soon I can pass through the grocery store checkout without being subjected glossy, enlarged photos of Kate Gosselin’s hideous hair.
