I think spring may be the only time we can get away with wearing colorful, over-the-top, flowery accessories without shame. Usually, a flowery necklace might make you look like an eight-year-old. But in spring, all is forgiven. People are happy to be outside again without wearing five layers of clothing, and everything’s in bloom again, so seeing a few floral accessories isn’t all that unusual. Now, I’m not saying you should go to work wearing a big hibiscus in your hair, or drape yourself with a plastic daisy chain.

If you’re a regular reader, you may have noticed that I adhere to the “less is more” school of thought. Fashion is meant to enhance us, not overpower us, and every item we put on should complement each other, not compete for attention. This is especially true on your wedding day. You, as the bride, should shine, not be a a mannequin draped with a bunch of lacy, frilly, sparkly crap. There’s nothing wrong with lace, frills, and sparkle—but in moderation.

I’m pretty sure I’ve told you this before, but I’m not a dress kinda girl. I love to dress up, I love shoes and heels, and I love matching the perfect handbag to all of it. But when I’m home relaxing, you’ll usually find me in jeans, a T-shirt, and sneakers, if I have shoes on at all. Hey, I don’t pay all that money for pedis just to cover my gorgeous toes up. Besides, I have nice feet. Do you ever see those women who, although they’ve done the right thing and had a pedi before putting sandals on, just have no business wearing sandals at all? I’m sorry, but some people just have ugly feet.

Look at this page. It kind of looks like I hid some Easter eggs here, doesn’t it? Only they’re not chocolate. I will be hitting the grocery store later to take advantage of the post-Easter candy sales. Other than being a great way to save money, if I restrict myself to buying candy after holidays, then I can better control how often I indulge in chocolate. Might sound like a weird system, but it works for me. Most of the time. I won’t lie. I do sometimes fall victim to that candy rack at the grocery checkout. Putting all that yummy chocolate right there with all the other impulse items should be a crime.

I love it when designers try to be different and unique, and it just comes out weird and off-putting. I’m all for designing and wearing unique clothes and shoes, and carrying colorful handbags that are a little offbeat can sometimes be fun. But sometimes designers just miss the mark when trying to diverge from the norm. Robert Clergerie is a good example of this. What the hell was up with those Frankenstein loafers?! Not a good look. And then Frye tries to get in on the distressed trend, and comes out with these awful sneakers that look like they’re probably as smelly as they are dirty.

Fashion is a circle. There are some things that never, ever go out of style, like jeans. The styles and varieties may change a bit from year to year, but jeans themselves are a staple that I don’t see ever fading from the fashion landscape. Get it? Fading? Come on, you know that was a good one. Ahem. Anyway, even the things you think are just too hideous to ever make a comeback eventually do show up, even if just for a short time. Like the tube top.
